Waxing doesn’t last as long as other temporary hair removal methods - Let’s be honest, your body hair does NOT know what’s pulling it out. It has no idea! Therefore, it cannot grow back slower or faster depending on the product. As long as we’re getting it removed during the 3-4 week cycle (because then the hair is still in the old anagen/new catagen phase) it will grow back less and less over time, and that goes for all methods, but not slower or faster. Â
Fun FACT: Body hair does grow faster in the summer and slower in the winter though!
The wax is hot and burns the skin - Nope! The wax is warm and doesn’t burn. Like many other products it must be heated above room temp via a warmer or microwave to be easily and comfortably applied on the body.Â
Waxing is painful - ALL temporary hair removal methods hurt when you’re pulling the hair from the root, but I assure you this is the least amount of pain you’ll experience out of all methods. I have personally trained and used myself as a guinea pig with countless waxes, sugars, and at-home kits of stickiness to come to this conclusion for you - good times :) - I chose to use what I do because I find it to be the best & most thorough service for you!Â
Wax sticks to the skin more than other product methods - Wrong again! It actually adheres less! Unlike other methods that are meant to get into the pores of the skin (and even are shown to go so far in the skin as to remove black heads) wax lays atop a thin layer of sunflower oil that is applied before we begin. If you’re allergic to sunflower oil, we have jojoba too!Â
Waxing is wasteful - I would LOVE for waxing and all hair removal methods for that matter to be more environmentally friendly and always looking for new ways, but I assure you The Lemon Drop is doing it’s very best! We use biodegradable: sheets, sticks, strips, and soon gloves! Only 1 pair of gloves is needed per service too! We use refillable bottles for almost every product used. Business cards are our only paper expense, otherwise we are paperless: using electronic receipts, service menus, billing, booking, and gift cards.Â
Also, many of our brands are lowering their package footprint including our soy candles from paw paw michigan, local brands The Hen House and Scarlet Halo, and last but not least SANITAS with 100% recyclable packaging & Ink!Â
Waxing pulls on hairs, causing more pain - Nope nope nope, it glides on in the direction of your hair growth, so it’s a pain free application!Â
Waxing breaks hairs - This common concern is often blamed on wax, but it is in fact strictly an Esthetician error and can happen with all different products, but not all estheticians.Â
Wax causes more ingrown hairs - Ingrowns are most often caused by broken hairs or lack of exfoliation. The former is an esthetician error, the latter a client error. That being said, some people are in fact way more prone to them and will struggle with them more no matter what product or method is used to remove hair. As long as they have a talented esthetician no hairs will be broken though! The Lemon Drop gives clients aftercare information and a range of ingrown prevention and treatment product suggestions.
Wax has bad chemicals - The Lemon Drop has 3 different types of waxes to use for different clients and services and none are filled with crazy irritating or toxic chemicals. The base of our wax all is Rosin, a biodegradable, highly stable, safe, non-toxic, natural gum. They vary in other ingredients such as avocado oil, coco extract, honey, ect.
Wax gives people a histamine reaction - Histamine reactions are very common during/after hair removal. It’s your body’s reaction to the hair being pulled out, not what is pulling it out! I have found waxing to lead to less histamine reactions though, as it doesn’t tug on or sink into the skin as much and we don’t have to go over the same skin as many times to get remaining hairs because wax can target the smallest areas to only cover spots with remaining hair, unlike other methods forced to go over skin that is already cleared of hair. Ask your doctor if you’re okay to take a benadryl before your appointment and/or apply cortisone cream afterward if this is a common experience for you.
